ME 9 - Creating Mood through Setting

ME #9 – Creating Mood through Setting – Due Thursday, November 14th

Using solid concrete details, strong verbs, sensory imagery, simile, metaphor, and personification, write a 100-200 word paragraph to create an appropriate mood for your story by including setting details along with the action.

Example sentences from our lesson:

1.      The ominous tree branches hung over her like claws as she hunched further into her grey overcoat and hurried out of the empty park.

2.      Rain coursed down the windows and left puddles on the window sill while the birds sat silently on the slumping branches outside.

3.      Early spring sunlight glimmered through the lemon yellow curtains as he contently sipped a cup of peppermint tea.

4.      He slouched blankly next to the dark wood cabinet, the dim candle refusing to light the velvet drapes.

5.      His hand gripped the cold steel of the school desk as he glared at the red ink scarring his history test.
