Thesis Research Paper Project
Schedule
Day 1 – Research Question – Gathering Research
Journal Write: Make a long list of things you are interested in, an expert in, or curious about.
Assignment: Create a research question and research it tonight – read and bring back 5 pieces of information answering your question from 5 different websites. (be sure to copy the URL)
Due: Tuesday, April 23, 2013
Use the following information to help you create a research question:
·         Did you find one right answer?  If so, you need to adjust your question so that it could include other possible answers.
·         Is your question one that someone could argue a different viewpoint?
·         Can you create a thesis statement about your question and include three supporting points?
·         Is there enough information for you to study each supporting point further and write a 2-3 page paper about it?
·         Is it quantifiable?
Day 2 – Plagiarism and Creating Thesis Statements
Assignment: Write a Solid Thesis Statement answering your research question and collect three pieces of evidence supporting your three reasons.
Due: Wednesday, April 24, 2013
Use the following information to help you write your thesis statement:
·         Is your thesis statement an arguable claim that can be supported with documented evidence?
·         Is your thesis statement more than a statement of fact?
·         Is your thesis statement quantifiable?
·         Could your thesis statement be answered and supported in several different ways?

Day 3 – Citing Web Sources
Assignment: Bring a “Works Cited” page (based on today’s instruction) for your 4 websites and 1 book; include your Thesis Statement.

Due: Tuesday, April 30, 2013
Day 5 - Quoting, Paraphrasing, Summarizing
Assignment: Choose three of the pieces of information that effectively supports each of the three points supporting your thesis statement.  Correctly quote one of them, correctly paraphrase a second one, and summarize a third.  Be sure to cite your sources correctly in each by “sandwiching” the information with the name of the author at the beginning and the page number in parenthesis at the end.  Refer to your notes from our class discussion if you have questions.
Please include your research question at the top of your paper and staple your Works Cited page (5 sources) to the back. Be sure to include ONLY credible sources – some of you may need to choose new sources.  Remember “wikis” or “blogs” or “Yahoo” or Google” sites are not credible sources.

Correct summarizing format – 2 points
Correctly cite sources for each – 6 points
