7th Grade English Final



7th Grade English Final

Complete #1 at home and bring it to class (also bring your food if you would like extra credit). #2 and #3 may either be completed ahead of time or in class on the day of the final.

1. Recipe – Create an original recipe.  In the written instructions for the recipe use metaphor, simile, personification, alliteration, onomatopoeia, and sensory imagery.  Make the recipe and bring it to share with the class for extra credit. (25 points + extra credit)

2. Petition – Write an explanation for a petition that you want everyone to sign allowing something bizarre (It does not have to be realistic or possible).  Use a thesis statement.  Direct the petition to a specific group of people and be sure to be specific and concrete.  No more than one paragraph. (30 points)

3. Final Final – Choose at least 3 things you have studied in English this year that will be the most valuable to you in the future.  Demonstrate how you will use your understanding of these things.  Be creative and insightful.  (30 points)

Total - 85 points


Extra Credit - Random Yearbook Signatures



Autograph/Memory Book 
(Up to 20 points per signature - based on creativity and concrete details)

Create 5 unique "yearbook signatures" where your line shows something interesting that has happened between you and the person owning the yearbook.


To ___ ,  (random detail that cleverly SHOWS not tells you about what event these two people were involved in and the personality of the receiver of the autograph)


First – choose the random/funny/bizarre event the two people shared.


Second – choose an odd personality trait that one of the people has.


Examples: 

To Penelope, the first friend who ever shared a cherry all-day sucker with me, lick by lick.


To Gentry, I hope the dandelion stains come out of your hair and that your curfew isn’t permanently 7 p.m.


To Marge, Thanks for introducing me to blue hair dye and pine-flavored potato chips.

Extra Credit ME - due May 8th



Personal Decision-making Assistant 

Brainstorm a list of decisions someone could be struggling with making.  Write an ad in a local newspaper offering your services as a personal decision-making assistant.  Be convincing and concrete, give examples of experience you have.  Do not use any form of the verb “to be”.
