ME - Due Thursday, February 28 - First Paragraph

Write the first paragraph of a persuasive essay on your choice of topics.  Remember that the hook should be first, then the background information or transitional sentences, and finally the thesis statement.

Hook: Use a story illustrating your point of view or your counter point.  Be sure to use lots of concrete details.

Background information/Transitional sentences: This should be a few sentences that connect your hook to your thesis statement.  These sentences make a smooth transition and give a reason and justification for you to make your argument.

Thesis statement: Please put this in the standard (and yes, very plastic) format.
1. Even though/Although/Despite the fact that/In spite of the fact that......
2. State your opinion very clearly and concisely as though the reader does not know your prompt.
3. Give your three very clear, neatly stated reasons without any elaboration.

The thesis statement should be stated in one sentence.

Have fun!  (hee hee)
